GALLERY // Remio ‘Subconscious Rumours’ at RVCA Corner Gallery | Collingwood

Melbourne has been pretty spoilt over the last few months, with plenty of artists displaying hundreds of works across a number of spaces in and around the city. As we begin to wind down, what has been a stellar 2014, The RVCA Corner Gallery announced the impending arrival of Norwegion/American Remio to our shores, specifically the borders of Collingwood. A highly prolific bomber and artist in his own right, Remio has created a number of highly original pieces, mixed with his globetrotting signature characters, to create a show that should please those with a love of vandalism and alternative art concepts. I’ll be the first to admit it, being a mark, I was initially more excited about seeing some of Remio’s classic characters around town, in comparison to the show itself. I can’t stand seeing artists work, predominately on a computer screen, because nothing beats getting out there and seeing it all with your own eyes, it’s what keeps this machine (Arty Graffarti) rolling. GALLERY // ‘Full Serve’ featuring Dmote, Will Lynes and Nathan Pickering at RVCA GAllery

Last night saw the opening of RVCA Gallery’s latest group show,  Full Serve, featuring a variety of works from 3 artists straight outta Ausland. Legendary Sydney graffiti writer Dmote displayed here work alongside classy sign writing duo Will Lynes & Nathan Pickering, with each artist displaying their own personal style across a number of works. While Dmote’s name alone brought me down for this one, I just can’t say no to some ultra fresh bits of sign writing either, making it a must see show for the calender. The place was still rammed when I got their around 8pm, with the space itself being spread across 2 rooms and a smoking area, so that’s really saying something. The artwork was varied between small and medium-sized canvas pieces, to large light boxes and bar room doors. There is a great mixture of colours spread across the room, including natural wood grain, mirrored glass and hi-vis neon paint. Dmote’s work featured his classic retro Disney inspired line work, mixed with bright psychedelia colours in the process, very reminiscent of Ralph …
